Friday, May 18, 2012, 07:00pm - 10:00pm
Location :  Hilton Garden Inn, South Natomas, 2540 Venture Oaks Way - Pine Room

Sean FairclothSean Faircloth, Director of Strategy and Policy for the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Science and Reason, is a skilled speaker, an accomplished legislator, a strategic thinker, and the author of the new book: Attack of the Theocrats: How the Religious Right Harms Us All and What to Do About It.

Sean served five terms in the Maine Legislature, served on the Judiciary and Appropriations Committee, and was a state Assistant Attorney General. In his last term his colleagues elected him Majority Whip. During public service he had numerous successes in children’s issues and justice system reform. He spearheaded the "Deadbeat Dad" child support law, which saved Maine taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and was later incorporated into federal law. He chaired a Commission on sex crime law reform which led to substantive improvement in that area of law. And he had the idea for the Maine Discovery Museum, leading the four-year project from concept to completion in 2001. At that time, of the twenty-five children’s museums in New England, the Maine Discovery Museum was the second largest.

Faircloth also served two years as Executive Director of Secular Coalition for America. For the Coalition, he conceived and led the Secular Decade plan, a vision for resecularizing American government. He has spoken around the United States on separation of church and state, the Constitution, children’s policy, obesity policy, and sex crime law, earning a reputation for innovative ideas and energizing presentations.

Come to our May meeting to hear this remarkable speaker. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.
