AOF Activities & Events
Back by popular demand! The previous Rapid Friending event (in September) was so successful, we'll give it another go.
Note, this is not speed dating, but a respectful way to build connections with fellow travelers and compatible minds. Folk you can hang with, talk to, be solid with.
Why? Because for many, building friendship is a slog. For many, the fear of getting acquainted with neighbors, or simple shyness, is a barrier comparable to electrified razor wire. Here's your chance to push through it without blood loss or burns.
The genial, disarming moderator will provide a list of questions you can start with, match you to a partner, and set a timer for five minutes or so of free-form chat. Hear a story; tell yours. Ask questions; answer some; bat ideas around. Then everyone will change conversation partners and do it again. It's a bit like speed dating but without the mush and baggage of romance. Give it a try. WCGW?
If you'd like even more opportunity to become acquainted with others, offer to be the greeter at the meeting. AOF will provide: adhesive name tags and a marker. You provide: smiles, kind eyes, and a friendly demeanor. As people come through the door, you will have a legitimate excuse to say, "Hi, I'm _____. What's your name?" Before you know it, you have tons of new friends! Contact AOF if interested.
The anti-social are also welcome of course. Many freethinkers have a slight dusting of shyness, and that's OK. You can sit aside and watch others interact, until you feel comfortable enough to jump in.
(Because of unforeseen conflicts, the presentation on animal welfare, previously scheduled for this day, has been postponed to summer 2019. Worth the wait.)
